2025 Impact Report
ControlAI is a non-profit organization working to avert the extinction risks posed by runaway machine intelligence*. We help hundreds of thousands of people understand these risks and meet hundreds of lawmakers to inform them, without mincing words, about what is at stake.
In little more than a year, we briefed over 200 parliamentarians, built a coalition of 110+ UK lawmakers recognizing superintelligent AI as a national security threat, sparked two debates in the UK House of Lords, and our work led to series of hearings on superintelligent AI at the Canadian Parliament.
Moving forward, we plan to significantly expand our work in the US, accelerate our progress from awareness to policy action, and establish a presence in all other G7 countries.
*At the time this document was published, we referred to the dangerous class of AI systems that threatens human extinction as “superintelligent AI” or "superintelligence". This term originally described AI systems that can outmatch humans at any task, including in domains like hacking, social engineering, and military operations. However, its meaning has drifted over time.
We now prefer to use the term “runaway machine intelligence,” which points squarely to the danger ControlAI is trying to avert: the development of AI that can overpower any country's national security forces and threaten human extinction.
